MEET THE TEAM 〰️

  • Gus works in Management Consultancy and is therefore being left in charge of all things organising and communications - we think that’s what consultants do anyway.

Following an “enthusiastic” sporting career, where he played both Hockey and Rugby to a high level, he has moved into the realm of endurance sports, running several marathons and setting up his own running Charity, Everyman’s Everest.

Gus’ decision to join the Deep Blue Crew was focused on his desire to push himself to his absolute limit, experience a long-term endurance event and to take on an ocean.

He isn’t the normal build of a rower, but what he lacks in height he makes up for in leg size, which the team hopes will help the team motor across the Atlantic.

  • Paddy is an adventure guru with a background in all things start-ups and sailing. Paddy is the most accomplished sea barer in the team, having grown up challenging both the Solent and North Sea. His acumen on the water was most recently polished when he sailed from Norway back to the UK in a two-man crew. Given Paddy’s sailing experience, the team have decided to nominate him as their Skipper. No pressure Paddy!

Away from the water Paddy also enjoys a physical challenge, most recently cycling the length of the country unsupported! Let’s hope he doesn’t mind having more company on his next endeavour.

Paddy has always wanted to take on an Ocean and is the founder of the Deep Blue Crew’s team. He promises rowing pedigree combined with knowledge of the Ocean that will be vital to the team’s success.

  • Jack was raised in Kenya and has had an innate sense of adventure from day one. Whether it is out on the water or deep in the bush, Jack thrives ‘off the beaten track’.

Although he is the younger brother of the group, coming in at 25, he is fiercely competitive and won’t settle for second place, not in a ‘friendly’ game of Monopoly and certainly not when racing across the Atlantic!

Jack’s passion lies in the world of conservation, a cause close to the hearts of the whole team! He is currently training to become an anti-poaching pilot.

A natural association with the outdoors has led Jack all over the world giving him a wealth of expedition experience. This paired with his love of adrenaline sports makes this the perfect next challenge for him. Having worked in many high-pressure environments his adaptability will be invaluable.

He promises to bring a calm and calculated approach to challenges, a fiery determination and the real possibility of providing some fresh seafood through his hook and line.

  • Matt, the fun uncle of the group, has recently swapped the desktops of Canary Wharf for the plains of Africa - following his passion for Wildlife.

Having also grown up in Africa, Matt is very at home on an adventure. In this environment, he is endlessly positive, has a great sense of humour and is rarely phased by a challenge. Matt also brings a solid sporting pedigree, with experience in big and small teams, a key part of rowing an ocean.

Matt’s ability to smile in the face of adversity will be a real cornerstone of our time in the Atlantic. Even in our darkest moments - Matt will be smiling!
